About Northfield Daily

A publication covering life in Canada’s three northern territories

What This Publication Covers

Northfield Daily focuses on the practical and cultural dimensions of living in Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. The three territories together cover roughly 3.9 million square kilometres — about 40 percent of Canada’s total landmass — and are home to a combined population of approximately 125,000 people.

The geographic and cultural diversity across these regions is substantial. The Yukon has a different character from the Northwest Territories, which in turn differs significantly from Nunavut. This publication does not attempt to reduce that complexity. What it does offer is grounded, factual writing on specific topics drawn from publicly available sources, documented regional knowledge, and territorial government data.

Topics covered include winter survival and seasonal logistics, Indigenous food systems and land use, northern wildlife, transportation infrastructure in remote areas, housing, and the aurora borealis as both a physical phenomenon and a subject of tourism. The focus is consistently on specifics rather than generalizations.

Editorial Approach

Writing on this publication follows a descriptive, informational style without advocacy, promotional language, or unsupported claims. Statistics and factual assertions reference publicly available sources where possible. Where precise data is not available, language is neutral and avoids invented figures.

The territories are home to Indigenous peoples — including Inuit, First Nations, and Métis communities — whose governance, land rights, and cultural practices are central to northern life. Coverage of these topics draws on publicly available government documents, land claims agreements, and academic and institutional sources rather than generalization.

Content and Updates

Articles are reviewed and updated when significant changes in the covered subject matter occur, such as regulatory updates, changes in government programs, or new publicly available research. Each article notes its most recent update date.

This is a static informational publication. It does not accept user-submitted content, run advertising, or operate a subscription model.
